CAPABILITIES
As do most high technology company GEM Elettronica strives increase its competitiveness by mastering lean production methods. to assure top performance and reliability,  all our Products and System are designed and Manufactured whit most stringent Commercial and Mil. Standard and each stage of the assembly is covered whit Total Quality Management Process and complete documented procedures.
GEM's 5000 square meter S.Benedetto del Tronto facility houses its corporate offices, engineering, administration, sales and warehouse in addition to it's component/equipment manufacture facility, environmental test facility and cleanroom to gyroscope assembly.

Optronic system
Development, research and prototyping, of optoelectronic devices and photonics based technologies
Production of laser and optronics systems:
- optical gyro;
- laser telemetry (Rangefinder);
- active detection (Active Laser Imaging);
- base research and support activity.

Base research laboratory:
research activity on new laser sources, adaptive software filters and integrated optics systems.
Staff:
Ph. D., II level master, or equivalent professional experience in physics, engineering and computer science.
Instruments:
dedicated instruments for test and assembling of optical components and optical fibers, spectrum analizer, laser, precision mechanics , high quality optics and a clean room.
Collaborations:
contacts and projects with top level universities and research centers.

Software Engineering
GEM Elettronica has developed an in-house capability to design firmware and software for our products. GEM personnel analyze requirements, develop and implement successful engineering solutions to fully satisfy customer needs.
With a mixed solution of internal resources (a software lab of about 20 personnel) augmented by proven and qualified external resources, GEM Elettronica achieves the following goals in the software field:
- high reliability - easy use - high system-to-system interoperability - standard platform use (operating systems, interfaces, protocols) - minimized maintenance costs
GEM Software Team uses state-of-the art tools including:
- integrated development environment (IDE)
- real-time emulation/simulation systems
- UML based documentation
Currently GEM owns the know-how to develop software in the following areas:
- embedded and realtime computing
- simulation environment
- Command & control system
- signal and image processing
- GUI (graphical user interface) based on Linux, LynxOs and Windows
- GIS (Geographical Information Systems)
To continue the quality route undertaken years ago, GEM Elettronica has initiated the process to obtain CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) certification, SEI level 2.

Production
By referring to manufacturing technological capability, GEM Elettronica offer products of high quality, employing the appropriate manufacturing technique of production. To assure top performance and reliability, all our products and System, after final testing and certification, are placed into full operation for a minimum 72 hour under controlled conditions.
Electronics Assembly Facility
This facility is capable of assembly cards, surface mounting components, fine pitch components, power supply, modulator, RF receivers, harness and cable assemblies, cabinet assembly, shelter assembly. The facility is integred, whit inspection, test, shipping/receiving, stockroom and CAD/CAM system for configuration control.
Mechanical Assembly Facility
In the area of mechanical assembly we have the competence to provide precision requirements demanded by sophisticated radar antenna, inertial navigation systems of fire system with complete machine shop capability.
Environmental Testing Facilities
The environmental testing facilities a GEM provide testing capabilities and analysis in the areas of shock, vibration, humidity, temperature, etc.
Avaible state of art equipment is vertical and horizontal, sine/random, up to 2500 HZ up to 1000kg force rating.
The temperature testing facility is capable of temperature extremes ranging from -90°C to +95°C up to 30c/minute temperature cycling.
Humidity can be controlled to 99% RH at various temperature extremes.
Simultaneous vibration and thermal testing can be combined for production reliability verification as well as engineering R & D testing.
Miscellaneous and support equipment consist of microprocessor based controllers, data logging instruments, remote device test equipment.

Gem Elettronica’s assistance organisation provides design, development, operations, enhancement, installation and maintenance services all over the world. We provide support to our customers with high quality and fair costs. Our reply to customer’s questions is immediate. We provide our customers with a logistical bridge to other support services provided by Gem Elettronica. Our aim is to assure that the system has been optimized and that the equipments will be supported during their operational life.

Technical training
Continuous technological development in the manufacturing of equipment requires up-to date training of service engineers.
A training center is available together with regular scheduled training courses.
In order to improve this important activity, Gem Elettronica can arrange local courses for operators, and for I°, II°, III° level technicians, using our special training vehicle complete with full operation equipment.
Gem Elettronica training staff consists of highly experienced instructional personnel, each with a great experience. This assures effective radar training with minimum preparation time and minimum number of training staff.
Our courses are organised mixing theory and practical exercises so to ensure the proper knowledge and the capacity to actuate it.

Type approval
GEM Elettronica has obtained the MED-B certifications for ECDIS (Electronic and Cartography Information System) equipment by DNV (Det Norske Veritas) organization and for its Radar equipment by GL (Germanisher Llyod) organization.
GEM Elettronica equipment is designed and manufactured following the highest quality standards and continuously submitted to environmental and functional tests, in both the development and production phase.
Furthermore GEM Elettronica is equipped with a set of in-house test instruments to perform most of the necessary tests, with external international level certified laboratories to cover any kind of requirement.
GEM Elettronica has the following test facilities:
- climatic chambers
- salt chamber
- anechoic chamber
- vibration platform
- far-field antenna test range
The favorable position of the main factory site (situated few meters from S.Benedetto harbor) allows to easily perform the functional tests required by the IEC-60945 standards.
