Active Laser Imaging:  

GEM elettronica has completed the development and test of the new Active Laser Imaging (ALI) system that was conceived as prime detection and surveillance tool for a wide range of homeland security and military application. ALI is an active system utilizing eye-safe infrared laser beam (1,550 nm wavelength) to illuminate a target and a Focal Plane Array (FPA) to collect the backscattered radiation. ALI has been developed to provide Special Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies, Coast Guard and Navy with a dedicated tool to perform positive detection and identification of targets under special environmental and contingent situations. In particular, whenever a special operation involving rapid, accurate and covert actions is required, ALI will provide the essential situational awareness information without giving out unwanted warnings. ALI will show its full effectiveness in supporting operation and missions involving:

ALI offers unique capabilities for detecting small details around and in proximity of strong thermal sources (i.e., detection of a vehicle license plate when its bright lights are on, or details of an armed man standing next to a smokestack) and to look through glass panels, windows or doors. 

Sentinel 200 Solid-State X-Band Maritime Surveillance Radar:

Sentinel 200 is GEM elettronica’s answer to the critical and demanding missions of real-time maritime and coastal surveillance.  Sentinel 200 is the radar of choice to detect and counter illegal maritime activities, secure coastline, protect vital maritime assets and support home-land security missions. The radar features sophisticated solid-state system architecture integrated with a robust and proven radar and signal processing techniques. As a result, SENTINEL-200 provides a reliable, dynamic and adaptive performace in any maritime and mission environment. Sentinel 200 has an unique capability of detecting and tracking maritime surface targets and it is particularly suitable for detection of very small targets (i.e., inflatable boats, RIBs and high-speed watercrafts) at long range, high sea-state and adverse metereological conditions. The radar can acquire and track more than 1,000 targets simultaneously. Moreover, Sentinel 200 can also operate in Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) Mode when operating in hostile or Electronic Warfare (EW) environments while retaining its excellent detection and surveillance capabilities.     

Combined Ka-X Band Maritime Surveillance Radar

The Combined Ka-X Radar is an integral part of GEM Harbor and Fleet Protection Systems. This new Ka-X band radar employs state-of-the-art technology, fully solid-state transceiver and features an extremely high resolution against small, moving targets. Thanks to the extremely accurate detection capabilities of high-frequency RF band, this radar is the ideal choice for a number of special applications for Homeland Security and naval surveillance. GEM Combined Ka-X Radar is a portable low-power system for short and medium range, ground-based border, coastal and area protection. The radar can be remotely deployable and can be powered by batteries, making it an excellent choice for vehicle-mounted surveillance. This revolutionary radar uses a rotating antenna to simultaneously detect moving targets. It has been proven to reliably detect a single person at 2km and vehicles or small boats at 4 km range. The Combined Ka-X Radar may be used as stand-alone for fixed area protection or may be linked together with other sensors to provide large-area protection and monitoring. The radar is also slewed to a surveillance camera to guarantee effective surveillance against any moving target. GEM Elettronica successfully passed all the rigorous tests included in the 2007 NATO Harbour Protection Trials in Taranto and empirically demonstrated its real capacity in detecting selected threats posed by crafts of opportunity, remotely operated vehicles, autonomous vehicle and mini-submarine.

Sea Falcon Frequency Diversity Naval Radar

SEA FALCON is a Frequency Diversity (FD) radar designed to dramatically improve the long-range detection of small maritime targets in presence of sea clutter.  SEA FALCON Frequency Diversity Radar was designed to minimize sea clutter due to the transmitted frequency and optimize the “squint” of the slotted-array antenna as function of the transmitted frequency. In actual ship borne operations, the radar has shown a remarkable 12dB S/N improvement. Moreover, intrinsic system redundancy due to the presence of two radar transmitters guarantees soft-degradation. Many international navies are today relying on Sea Falcon for more stable radar tracks, reduction of target fluctuations due to electromagnetic propagation and movement of the small target and improved target visualization. GEM Elettronica radar technology allows an improvement of Plot Extraction and Automatic Tracking, reduction of false alarms and sea clutter and enhanced visualization by the operator to clearly discriminate small targets on sea surface.

POLARIS Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (FOG-100)  

As a result of a multi-million dollar R&D investment started in 2001, GEM Elettronica has designed and successfully installed several POLARIS Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (POLARIS FOG-100) either as stand-alone units or as integral part of a ship navigation system. FOG-100 technology allows the gyroscope to provide an accurate, real-time reading of true north as well as control of attitude without GPS aiding.
